If you’re dreaming of some time on the coast and wondering when to visit our little slice of heaven, you’re in the right place. We’ve called Port Aransas home for a while now, and let us tell you, Mustang Island is gorgeous year-round—but each season brings its own vibe.
Spring: The Island Wakes Up
When March rolls around, the wildflowers start blooming and the island stretches out of its winter nap. Temps sit comfortably in the 70s and low 80s, and there’s a certain buzz in the air—like we all know something good is coming. Migratory birds start showing up (birders, bring your binoculars!), and Mustang Island State Park is chef’s kiss perfect for hiking or kayaking in the flats. If you’re here around Easter, don’t miss the beach egg hunts or spring art fairs downtown.
Summer: Where the Party’s At
This is when Port A gets loud in the best way. The days are hot—mid-90s most afternoons—but the Gulf breeze keeps things comfortable, especially if you’re parked under a canopy with your toes in the sand. You could hit up J.P. Luby or I.B. Magee Beach for the surf, then swing by Snoopy’s or Virginia’s on the Bay for shrimp baskets and cold beer. The sunsets? Pure fire. You haven’t lived till you’ve watched one from a beach chair with sand between your toes and salt on your skin.
Fall: Local’s Favorite Season
Honestly, fall might be our best-kept secret. Temps stay in the 70s and 80s, but the summer crowds have thinned out, which means more beach for us. The fishing’s amazing—this is prime redfish season, and the piers and charters are hopping. We’ve also got events like Beachtober and the Harvest Moon Regatta. The air just feels better in the fall.
Winter: Chill Vibes Without the Chill
Winter in Port A might be laid-back, but it’s far from boring. With daytime temps in the 60s and 70s, we’re still walking the beach, watching the waves, and soaking in the sunshine. But what really makes this season special? The small-town holiday magic. We kick things off with the Golf Cart Holiday Parade—locals deck out their carts with lights, tinsel, and music, and cruise through town spreading cheer. Then there’s the Lighted Boat Parade at Roberts Point Park, paired with a spectacular Holiday Drone Show lighting up the sky over the marina. It’s festive, coastal, and totally Port A. If you love wildlife, winter’s also prime time for spotting Whooping Cranes and other migratory birds—grab your binoculars and join a guided nature walk. And if you’re here to ring in the New Year, don’t miss the New Year’s Eve Fireworks over the Gulf.
