A Visitor’s Guide to the Deep Sea Roundup in Port Aransas

Sandy Port Aransas beach with gentle Gulf waves, shorebirds, and a long fishing pier extending across the water beneath a partly cloudy sky.

The 90th Deep Sea Roundup has officially wrapped up, but the fishing stories, family memories, and waterfront excitement are still fresh in Port Aransas. Now anglers and beach-loving families can start looking ahead to next year’s tournament.

The official 2027 dates have not been announced, so keep an eye on the tournament website for updates. Once dates go live, reserve your accommodations quickly—especially when you need boat parking or want to stay near the harbor.

Choose an Adventure That Fits Your Family

You do not need to be a veteran offshore angler to enjoy the Deep Sea Roundup Port Aransas experience. Recent tournaments have welcomed competitors in Offshore, Bay-Surf, Fly-Fishing, Kayak, Tarpon Release, and Billfish Release divisions, with opportunities for junior anglers too.

One family member might head into the Gulf chasing a tournament catch while everyone else enjoys the beach or watches the action from shore. No boat? Consider reserving a local charter or attending as a spectator.

Before registering, carefully read the updated tournament rules. Eligible species, fishing boundaries, release procedures, equipment requirements, and deadlines may change from year to year.

Save Time for the Weigh-Ins

Weigh-ins are where the day’s fishing stories become real. Boats return, coolers are opened, catches reach the scales, and families gather to see whether the leaderboard is about to change.

Bring hats, sunscreen, cold water, and a camera. Check the official schedule of events before your trip so you know when to arrive and where spectator activities will take place.

Let the Kids Join the Tradition

Watch for announcements about junior divisions, the Piggy Perch Tournament, and other youth activities. These events give children a fun introduction to casting, friendly competition, and the fishing culture that has shaped Port Aransas for generations.

Tournament participation also supports Port Aransas Boatmen Inc., which funds local scholarships and youth programs.

Build a Beach Vacation Around the Event

Leave plenty of space in your itinerary for island time. Spend the morning swimming or building sandcastles along Port Aransas’ 18 miles of public shoreline, catch a weigh-in that afternoon, and finish with seafood, ice cream, and a Gulf sunset
