The Port Aransas Nature Preserve is a treasure trove of natural beauty and serene escapes on the Gulf Coast. With a mission to preserve history, protect habitats, and promote harmony with nature, this stunning preserve offers a wealth of experiences across its four distinct sites: the Nature Preserve at Charlie’s Pasture, Joan and Scott Holt Paradise Pond, Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, and Wetland Park.
Discover Each Unique Site
Each location within the preserve brings its own unique flavor of nature’s magic. The Nature Preserve at Charlie’s Pasture presents a splendid panorama of coastal grasslands and salt marshes, making it a perfect spot for a tranquil day in the lap of nature. Joan and Scott Holt Paradise Pond, with its lush surroundings, is a hotspot for birdwatchers and photographers aiming to capture the fleeting moments of avian life. At the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, visitors can stroll along the boardwalk, peering into the rich bird habitats, while Wetland Park offers a closer look at aquatic ecosystems with its accessible walkways and educational signage.
Free Programs to Enhance Your Experience
What’s more exciting than experiencing nature up-close without a price tag? Port Aransas Nature Preserve offers several weekly programs that are completely free! For those looking to stretch and relax amidst nature, Nature Preserve Yoga is available every Tuesday at 12:30 pm at the Charlie’s Pasture Pavilion. If you’re an early bird, join the Birding on the Boardwalk every Wednesday at 9 am at the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, where the colors and calls of various bird species come to life.
For those who love a good trek, the Nature Walk at Charlie’s Pasture is a must-attend. The first Saturday of the month features a morning walk starting at 8 am from Community Park, along the Community Park Trail. It’s a great way to start your weekend with a dose of fresh air and exercise. Similarly, every third Saturday, gear up for another enriching walk at Charlie’s Pasture South, beginning at the same time but exploring different parts of the preserve.

Best of all, each site in the Port Aransas Nature Preserve is open from sunrise to sunset, giving you the flexibility to visit at your convenience and stay as long as you like.
